How to crochet a lace scarf- free pattern

Hello my beautiful crocheters, today I’ll show you how to crochet a beautiful lace scarf.

I’ve made this scarf for my beautiful sister and she is crazy in love with it. She wears it all the time: in spring and autumn as a lovely scarf, in cool summer evenings to cover her shoulders and in winter: the city slicker knot it looks lovely with her coat.

 

Tip: how to make a city slicker knot: fold the scarf in half lengthwise and wrap it around your neck, then pull the loose ends through the loop that was created by the fold.

The chart: 

For my sister scarf I used cotton yarn and 2mm hook. This pattern is very easy to crochet even for beginners.

You will need:

350g cotton yarn (use your favorite brand);

2mm hook (or what hook size is indicated on the label);

Abbreviations:

ch= chain;

sc= single crochet;

dc= double crochet.

Pattern Instructions:

To make a project with this pattern you have to make multiple of 14 chain, I wrote the pattern for 28 chain for helping you to see how the pattern is shaping.

Row 1: 3ch, 1dc in 1st ch, 3ch, skip 3 ch, 5 sc, 3ch, skip 3ch, 3dc, 3ch, skip 3 ch, 5 sc, 3ch, skip 3ch, 2dc;

Row 2: 3ch, 3dc in space of 3ch, 3 ch, 3sc in 2nd, 3rd, 4th sc of previous row, 3ch, 3dc in space of 3ch, 1ch, 3dc in next space of 3 ch,  3 ch, 3sc in 2nd, 3rd, 4th sc of previous row, 3ch, 3dc in space of 3ch, 1dc;

Row 3: 5ch, 3dc in space of 3ch, 3 ch, 1dc in 2nd sc of previous row, 3ch, 3dc in space of 3ch, 3ch, 1dc in 1ch of previous row, 3ch, 3dc in space of 3ch, 3ch, 1dc in 2nd sc of previous row, 3ch, 3dc in space of 3ch, 3ch, 1dc on the edge.

Row 4: 1 ch, 2 sc, 3 ch, 3 dc in next space of 3 ch, 1 ch, 3 dc in next space of 3 ch, 3 ch, 3 sc, 3 ch,  3 dc in next space of 3 ch, 1 ch, 3 dc in next space of 3 ch, 3 ch, 2 sc on the edge.

Row 5: 1 ch, 3 sc, 3 ch, 3 dc in 1 ch of previous row, 3 ch, 5 sc, 3 ch, 3 dc in 1 ch of previous row, 3 ch, 3 sc.

Row 6: 1 ch, 2 sc, 3 ch, 3 dc, 1 ch, 3 dc, 3 ch, 3 sc, 3 ch, 3 dc, 1 ch, 3 dc, 3 ch, 2 sc;

Row 7: 5 ch, 3 dc in space of 3 ch, 3 ch, 1 dc in space of 1 ch, 3 ch, 3 dc in next space of 3 ch, 3 ch, 1 dc in 2nd sc of previous row, 3ch, 3 dc in space of 3 ch, 3 ch, 1 dc in space of 1 ch, 3 ch, 3 dc in next space of 3 ch, 1 dc on the edge.

Row 10:  3ch, 3dc in space of 3ch, 3 ch, 3sc in 2nd, 3rd, 4th sc of previous row, 3ch, 3dc in space of 3ch, 1ch, 3dc in next space of 3 ch,  3 ch, 3sc in 2nd, 3rd, 4th sc of previous row, 3ch, 3dc in space of 3ch, 1dc;

Row 11: 5ch, 3dc in space of 3ch, 3 ch, 1dc in 2nd sc of previous row, 3ch, 3dc in space of 3ch, 3ch, 1dc in 1ch of previous row, 3ch, 3dc in space of 3ch, 3ch, 1dc in 2nd sc of previous row, 3ch, 3dc in space of 3ch, 3ch, 1dc on the edge;

Row 12: 1 ch, 2 sc, 3 ch, 3 dc in next space of 3 ch, 1 ch, 3 dc in next space of 3 ch, 3 ch, 3 sc, 3 ch,  3 dc in next space of 3 ch, 1 ch, 3 dc in next space of 3 ch, 3 ch, 2 sc on the edge.

Repeat the pattern starting with row 5 until you reach the desired length. I’ve made mine 140 cm length.

You can wash it by hand or in a washing machine at 30 degrees, and block it (if you used cotton you can iron it). Now you can enjoy your new and beautiful scarf!

    Beautiful pattern and the pink is so pretty. On some of the pictures it looks like a triangle scarf. Is it just the way it’s photographed or is there a triangle scarf pattern somewhere? Or would it be easy to adapt. Thank you for the pattern

    1. I don’t know how it will look with mandala yarn, but you can try to make a sample: 28 chains and work the pattern for 12 rows, that way you will see how the pattern looks like and how many chains you will need for a scarf. I will send you the pdf on email.

    1. This pattern ask for multiple of 14 chains, I wrote the pattern for 28 for helping everyone to understand how to continue the pattern. Maybe the video will be more helpful, and easier to understand the pattern.
      Is very simple: you work 14 stitches as the pattern says and then work from the first dc repeating the pattern.

I think the easier way is this: if look at the row 12 you will see that is exactly like row 4, so after you make the 12 row you continue with row 5 (so the 13 row is like row 5, row 14 is like row 6, row 15 is like row 7, row 16 is like row 8, row 17 is like row 9, row 18 is like row 10, row 19 is like row 11, row 20 is like 12, row 21 is like row 5, and you repeat like that).

    1. I would also love to have a .pdf version of this pattern! It ‘s so lovely, and would make a great project for a long plane ride I have coming up soon! However, I need the pattern printed in a more condensed form that doesn’t include all the pictures. Don’t misunderstand: I love the pictures! I just need a different, more portable format.

      1. When you say “4 times wider”, do you mean 4 x14 (56 chains wide), or 4 x 28 (112 chains wide)?

        I’m a beginner crocheter, but I really like your scarf and want to give it a try. I will watch your video for assistance, as I need to see the stitches as they are being made. Thank you for sharing.

        1. I think it was 112 chains, but my yarn was very thin. I recommend you to make a sample with your yarn: make 28 chains and work the pattern for 12 rows, this way you will see how the pattern looks like and how many chains you will need for a scarf.
