Hello my knitters, today I will show you the most common increases technique in knitting, how to do it and how to read it in a chart pattern/diagram.

Knowing the increases and decreases technique along with knit and purl stitches you will be able to make so many projects: sweaters, cardigans, dresses, blankets, baby clothes, scarves.

Increase: Yarn Over.

This simple increase is the basis, along with decreases, of all lace work.

Wrap the yarn around the right needle once and then continue knitting. When you work the next row (knit or purl) into the wrap as if it is a stitch a small hole is created.

Increase: knit into the front and the back:

Knit into the front of the next stitch on the left needle, but don’t slide the stitch off the needle, insert the right needle into the back of the knitted stitch purlwise and knit that loop then slide it all off of the needle. The result is two stitches on the right needle instead of one.

Increase: Make one- right leaning

Insert the left needle from back to front into the horizontal strand between the last stitch worked on the right needle and the next stitch on the left needle. Insert needle into the front of the strand and knit it.

Increase: Make one- left leaning

Insert the left needle from front to back into the horizontal strand between the last stitch worked on the right needle and the next stitch on the left needle. Insert needle into the back of the strand and knit it.

Central double increase:

Knit into the back of the first stitch on the left needle without sliding it off, then knit into the front of the same stitch and slide it off on the right needle. In the strand running vertically between the two stitches you’ve just created insert the left needle into this strand from back to front, knit through the back loop and slide it off of the left needle.
