This Summer crochet baby blanket it’s officially my favorite crochet baby blanket I’ve crocheted until now! I love it so much because it’s crocheted with my favorite crochet lace pattern, the first crochet lace stitches I learned as a beginner many years ago. But for this Summer crochet baby blanket, I’ve made this lace-like crochet granny square.
I love to crochet granny squares and crocheting this lace as a granny square is so much fun. Making this crochet granny square blanket for an adult or a baby will be a beautiful and unique gift, especially for the warm weather.
What I like the most about this pattern is that is so easy to choose the size. If you want your project to be a crochet baby blanket size you just stop crocheting when you’ve reached the size you want. If you want a bigger size, a Laphgan, or even a queen bed size just continue crocheting. You don’t have to count the beginning chains. You don’t have to measure and calculate how many chains you have to start. For that reason, this crochet baby blanket is the perfect project. And the best thing is you don’t have to crochet that infinite first row, which I hate so much to do!
If you’re looking for an easy-to-crochet baby blanket this is the one. The pattern for crochet granny square lace is very easy to crochet but you have to count your stitches, because if you’ve missed one, well, we all know what happens. If I’ve succeeded in learning how to crochet this stitch as a beginner I’m sure you’ll succeed too. So grab your hook and your yarn and let’s get started!
The dimensions of my Summer crochet baby blanket are 90 cm in length x 90 cm in width (35 inches x 35 inches),
I’ve used: 400g of Pure cotton fine (8x 50g) (50g= 170m/ 1.76oz= 185 yards) and a 3.5 mm hook.
This is a very high-quality cotton yarn. This yarn is made from 100% combed Turkish cotton, which is soft, flexible, and exceptionally durable. Textiles in Turkish cotton stay beautiful for many years and only get softer with use. This yarn also excels when it comes to its absorbing powers, but is quick-drying at the same time. The color chart includes plenty of gorgeous colors, you just have to decide what color you like and get started. You can buy this yarn HERE.

Because I wanted to keep the nice wavy edges I’ve crocheted 3 rounds of single crochet stitches for the edge. You can leave the edge with just one round, it will look very beautiful in this way too.
How to make the edge for the Summer crochet baby blanket:
Round 1: 1 ch, sc in the same stitch, and continue crocheting sc in every stitch. For the ch spaces crochet 3 sc, sl st to finish the round.
For round 2 start with 1 ch, sc in the same stitch, and continue crocheting sc in every next stitch. When you reach the corners crochet 5 sc: 1 sc in the first stitch crocheted in the corner of the previous round, 3 sc in the second stitch of the previous round, and 1 sc in the last stitch of the previous round.
For round 3 repeat round 2. For the corners crochet the sc this way: sc in every next 2 sc of the corner, 2 sc in the 3rd stitch of the corner, and sc in every next 2 sc of the corner. So for each corner, you have to have 6 sc.
Tie off and weave in the ends.
You can wash it by hand or in a washing machine at 30 degrees.
This Summer crochet baby blanket looks beautiful and needs to be blocked! But if you’ve used the yarn I’ve recommended for this project you can iron the Summer crochet baby blanket. If you’ve used another yarn read the label for the instructions. But if you’re not sure just block it using your favorite method.

I’m working up a swatch of this pattern to teach one of my crochet students. The pattern states to Slip Stitch 3 times at the end the Round to end in the Chain-3 Space. But, if I’m not mistaken, it’s necessary to Slip Stitch a total of 4 times: once to close the Round, once in each of the next 2 Double Crochet, and once in the Chain-3 Space.
This is how I’m doing it: the first slip stitch to close the round, the 2nd slip stitch in the next dc, and the 3rd slip stitch in the ch space (see the chart). But you can do it as you said too.
