What Is the Vine Lace Zig Zag Knit Stitch?

The Vine Lace Zig Zag knit stitch is a repeating lace knitting stitch pattern that uses yarn overs and decreases to create a graceful openwork design. The eyelets form delicate vine-like columns that travel across the fabric in a gentle zigzag motion.

Some lace patterns have big openings, but this textured lace knitting pattern is the perfect balance of texture and drape. The resulting lace knit fabric feels as airy and elegant as can be, while still providing enough structure for a variety of projects.

The stitch pattern really shines when you use solid-colored yarns. It’s the perfect choice when you want the stitch work to be the star of the show.

Tips for Knitting the Vine Lace Zig Zag Stitch Successfully

Lace knitting can be a bit tricky, but it’s so worth it! With a few helpful techniques, it becomes much easier and more enjoyable.

  • Use Stitch Markers:markers are your friends when it comes to separating pattern repeats and spotting those pesky mistakes.
  • Count Your Stitches: often frequent stitch counts help prevent errors from growing across multiple rows.
  • Practice With a Small Swatch: before diving into a big knitting project, it’s a good idea to knit a little swatch. This will help you learn the pattern repeat and work on getting consistent.
  • Choose Smooth Yarn: if your yarn has a lot of texture or is fuzzy, it might hide those beautiful lace details. Smooth yarn is a great choice because it really brings out the stitch definition.
  • Choose Light-Colored Yarn: Light-colored yarn makes it easier to see yarn overs and decreases, especially when learning a new lace knitting stitch pattern.
  • Block Your Finished Lace Project: blocking is essential for lace knitting. Wet blocking is a wonderful way to prepare the fabric. It opens the eyelets, smooths the fabric, and reveals the full beauty of the horseshoe lace pattern. Many lace projects transform dramatically after blocking, and it’s so exciting to see the results!
